Johnstown man accused of raping woman in basement of Cambria Co. apartment

Authorities in Cambria County say a Johnstown man is jailed following an investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in the basement of a local apartment.

Police say in late April, officers with the Stonycreek Township police department were contacted to investigate an alleged sexual assault at an apartment building along Emilio Street.

Investigators say the victim told police that she reportedly met the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Raemil Morris, on Facebook.

Police say the two reportedly exchanged several messages before agreeing to meet in person at the apartment.

Authorities say that on the night of the alleged assault, Morris and the victim were in the basement common area of the apartment when he reportedly began making sexual advances towards her.

According to the affidavit, police say the victim told officers that she attempted to leave but that Morris reportedly "forced himself" on her and began performing various sexual acts.

Police say the victim then reportedly asked Morris, "why would you do that," at which time he then began removing her clothing and assaulting her.

Authorities say the victim repeatedly told Morris that she did not want to engage in any sexual activity, but police say her pleas were ignored.

Police say that when the alleged assault was over, the victim was reportedly putting her clothing back on when a pair of scissors reportedly fell out of her pocket.

Authorities say Morris then allegedly picked them up and "threatened" the victim, asking "did you think you were going to do something to me with these?'

Investigators say Morris later attempted to contact the victim, via social media.

According to the affidavit, police say Morris was later identified in a police photo array.

Authorities note that Morris was taken into custody on May 20th after being spotted near the Sheetz, on Broad Street, and leading police on a brief foot pursuit.

According to online court records, Morris is facing a variety of charges, including rape, sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault without consent, as well as flight to avoid apprehension and evading arrest.

Police add that he was also booked on charges of simple assault after being wanted for an alleged physical assault at Solomon Homes in early March.

He is being housed at the Cambria County Prison on $200,000 bail.
