Without a doubt, the biggest change from Pathfinder: Kingmaker to Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is the inclusion of the Mythic Paths system. With ten distinct paths you can choose from, this system gives you access to unimaginable power and unique roleplaying options within the game. However, with so many options at your disposal, choosing the right MP is far from easy. Even more complicated is the fact that many of them are gated behind decisions you can make in the game, meaning that it’s easy to miss many of them. To help you plan out your build in advance, this Mythic Paths Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous guide will cover all ten MPs and what you need to do to unlock them.
Which Mythic Path to Choose in Pathfinder WotR
To start with, you should know that there are no right or wrong choices here. Naturally, some Mythic Paths synergize better with certain classes and playstyles (for example – the Lich with arcane spellcasters), but every MP is more or less suited for every class and will give a massive power boost to each character type. Several Mythic Paths are available to all characters, and other MPs are very tricky to unlock and you will only get them very late in the game. With that said, let’s take a look at all ten Mythic Paths in Pathfinder WotR.

Since Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has you dealing with a demonic incursion, the Angel is a very obvious – if safe – choice. The Angel blends really well both with martial and divine spellcaster characters and is a great and dependable all-around supporting MP that can both buff and heal your allies. When it comes to role-playing options, the Angel perfectly embodies the Lawful Good character. It is the very firs MP that you will come into contact with, when you meet Lann and Wenduag. All you need to do is to interact with the Angel’s sword.
Demon Mythic Path
An unorthodox choice, but as they say – fight fire with fire. Nowhere is this more apparent than the Demon MP. This is the second path that you will be able to unlock and you will find it in the Shield Maze, close to the color gem puzzle. Just like the Angels embody the Lawful Good alignment, so do the Demons stand for all things Chaotic Evil. Consequently, this makes them a great choice for rage-filled evil characters who desire nothing more than to rain down death and destruction.
Aeon Mythic Path
The Aeon stands in the middle of these two polar extremes. Being Lawful Neutral, it is the cosmic judge that seeks to bring balance to the cosmos. To unlock this MP, observe the place where the Dragon was killed in the Market square. The Aeon can negate the abilities of enemies and is a powerful debufer. Additionally, it is one of the most interesting MPs for role-playing purposes, since it has the power to “right wrongs“, and can see and expose the darkest secrets of other NPCs and potentially help them find redemption.
Azata Mythic Path
Have you ever wanted to play a straight-up superhero in your fantasy RPG? If that’s the case, then the Azata will be a dream come true. These beings are Chaotic Good to their very core, and are all about freedom, spontaneity, and goodness. Their abilities include gaining superpowers and a cute little fairy dragon companion which grows in power (and size!) along with you. To unlock the Azata, complete the Starward Gaze quest and sing with the Desnan adepts.
Trickster Mythic Path
The Trickster is all about fun. This MP takes the Chaotic Neutral archetype to its logical extreme, and delights in sowing havoc and creating laughs and bewilderment wherever they go. To get access to this MP, you will need to trick the cultists at Blackwing Library into fighting each other. The Trickster has a sort of fourth-wall awareness (think Marvel’s Deadpool) and can “game” the system they are in (a game), to, for example, reroll a 1 (critical fail) and turn it into a 20 (critical success).
Lich Mythic Path
Master of undeath, the Lich MP will allow you to raise certain characters from death – friends and foes alike – and make them serve you. But beware, for all its promised power, this Mythic Path comes with a lot of downsides as well. Being undead, you will no longer be able to romance anyone (you will lack the necessary body parts to do so), and many of your companions will not want to deal with you anymore. Good that you don’t need them and can always make (or, technically – raise) your own instead. To become one, you will need to return the wand you picked up in the Leper’s Smile to the Lich in Lost Chapel.
Devil Mythic Path
The Devil is the Lawful Evil counterpart to the Demon’s Chaotic Evil. As such, it is a more refined type of evil, where you want to ensnare mortals into making bad deals that mean the damnation of their souls. This is a very complicated Mythic Path to get. To become a Devil, you will first need to be either an Azata or Aeon. Then, in your court in Melies, a devil named Melies will appear. Be polite to this devil and go along with everything he advises you to do. Later on, he will appear again and give you the chance to become a Devil. After you successfully pass several Diplomacy checks, you will officially become one of these evil outsiders.
Gold Dragon Mythic Path
Do you want to turn into a dragon? Who wouldn’t, right? The Gold Dragon Mythic Path lets you do just that! Another MP you can get late stage, the road to becoming a Gold Dragon starts at the very beginning of the game. In the tunnels you wake up in after Deskari attacks you, pick up Terendelev’s scale. There are two of these here, make sure not to use one of them and leave it for later. Next, pick up Terendelev’s Claw in Lerper’s Smell. Complete the The Dragon’s Fate quest and be nice to Hal there. Later in the game, you will meet them again. Just like before, be kind to this character and you will get the chance to become a Gold Dragon.
Swarm-That-Walks Mythic Path
By far the most difficult Mythic Path to unlock, the Swarm-That-Walks is a scourge on all life, and exists only to feed. Caution, if you pick this MP, all of your companions will leave you. To be able to become this monstrosity, you will need to fulfil several complicated criteria. At the start of Chapter 2, refuse to take Queen Galfrey with you. When you encounter the Vescavor Queen, take some of her goop. Use this item at the Battle of Drezen. In Chapter 3, you will be tasked with finding and killing a Nascent Vescavor Queen. When you find it, don’t kill it. Once you meet fellow Swarm-That-Walks Xanthir Vang, ask him how he became one. Find his notes in that room. This will unlock a Crusade Project. Complete it. In Chapter 4, you will get the quest to kill the now fully grown Vescavor Queen. If you have done everything correctly, when you have defeated the queen, you will get the option to devour it. Once you have done that and you reach Mythic Rank 8, you will then be able to select this unique (and gross) Swarm-That-Walks Mythic Path.
Legend Mythic Path
The Legend isn’t a Mythic Path per se, more an absence of one. This is available to every character once they hit Mythic Rank 8. Instead of becoming a creature of legend, you can instead choose to remain a mortal, albeit a legendary one. When you select this, all of your ability scores will increase by 4 and you will be able to reach Level 40. Note that you are still limited to 20 levels per class, so if you want to multi-class, this could be a great choice, since it lets you dip into a lot of different classes.
